Introduction to PewDiePie

Felix Kjellberg, known on YouTube as PewDiePie, is a gamer, philanthropist, and YouTube superstar. He started his YouTube channel in 2010 and reached 1 million subscribers by July 2012. As of September 18th this year, his channel has received over 26 billion views, making it the 20th most viewed channel on the platform. Both his subscriber and view counts are the highest among channels operated by an individual. In 2016, Time magazine named him one of the world’s 100 most influential people.

Although I am not a gamer, I have a client from Sweden and share PewDiePie’s philanthropic interests. With these commonalities and my desire to analyze people who have the “Oprah effect,” I want to share my thoughts on PewDiePie’s “I Hit 10 Years on YouTube” video. This analysis is meant to help you become the speaker you’re meant to be.

Lesson 1: Be Authentically Yourself

One of the most powerful aspects of PewDiePie’s video is that he is 100% himself. He doesn’t care if you like him or not, and that’s what makes him likable. When you walk onto a stage or a virtual platform, people can sense if you’re not being genuine. Authenticity builds trust with your audience. Focus on being authentically yourself, and your audience will trust you more.

Lesson 2: Love What You Do

PewDiePie genuinely loves creating YouTube videos, and it shows. There’s no pretense in what he’s doing; he simply shares information that he knows his audience will devour. When you are passionate about your topic, whether online or on stage, your audience will respond positively. Being of service and sharing your passion can make a significant impact on your audience.

Lesson 3: Get Vulnerable

PewDiePie shares his experiences of explosive success, dealing with haters, and his life with Marzia. Being vulnerable helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level. Sharing personal stories and emotions can make your speech more relatable and impactful. So, remember to be vulnerable; it’s a powerful way to connect with your audience.

Conclusion

To summarize, here are the three key lessons we can learn from PewDiePie’s public speaking style:

  1. Be Yourself: Authenticity builds trust.
  2. Love What You Do: Passion is contagious.
  3. Get Vulnerable: Vulnerability fosters connection.
