Show Summary:

Today’s show is another in a series of bonus episodes each featuring one of the amazing talks given by my participants in The Big Talk Academy as a part of our Virtual Showcase. This showcase is the culmination of their hard work as they cross the finish line to becoming certified speakers.

These episodes give you a peek behind the scenes to witness the amazing Big Talks presented and also give you exclusive access to my live feedback and the direction I give to each speaker immediately following their performances.

This week’s episode features Connie Jakab and her talk, The Circle of Being Seen and How it Impacts Mental Health.

Connie is the Director of Community for the global movement Flourishing Life and is also the Senior Manager of Wellness Innovate. She is the author of Bring Them Closer and two other books. Connie is passionate about rebelling against status quo living and encouraging others to branch out. She is also the Founder of the National Hope Movement combatting mental health in Canada.

Connie is a sought out speaker for her raw honesty and humor. She’s also been known to breakdance at times. She has owned two dance companies teaching the power of connection through breakdance as well as produced six theatre shows on social justice issues such as poverty, women’s vulnerabilities, bullying, and addiction/mental illness using dance, media, and spoken word. Connie drives her passion outward into the arms of those wanting something more radical and meaningful in life. She lives with her husband and two boys in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

In her creative and moving Big Talk, Connie uses dance and choreography to share the powerful story of connection and why we need it now more than ever.

In this talk, she explores:

  • Her experience being bullied in school and the courage she found in a hip-hop circle
  • How to encourage others and why bravery rises in a community
  • The impacts of safe communities on anxiety and mental health
  • Why we need to be seen and understood by others
