175 Helping Your Audience Get Past Their Blocks – John Burgard

What do music, workouts, and public speaking have in common? Today’s guest has the answer. He shares how his unusual background and uncommon approach helps him equip his clients and audience members to get past their blocks.

Johnny B is a personal trainer who started his business Relentless PT, incorporating personal training, nutrition, and life coaching. Before this, he was a musician for years, getting over 200 songs published and being played internationally on everything from MTV, Discovery Channel, and Access Hollywood.

He spent a short time working with the New Orleans film scene, scoring some short films and working on screenplays. Before all that, his “demons” were born when, at age thirteen, he lived with runaways, where he endured years of mental and physical abuse. He has a million stories of that era of his life that he still carries with him, and the scars on his back to prove it.

We’ll explore:

  • The similarities between personal training and being a part of a band.
  • How Johnny B.’s unusual background taught him how to survive.
  • Johnny B.’s strategies for learning about his audience.
  • Why it’s important to know whom you’re talking to.
  • What Johnny B. wants from an audience that he wants to inspire.
  • The connection between success in the gym and success in life.
  • The value of humor in breaking the ice with your audience.
  • Three words Johnny B. uses to get his objective: achieve, educate, validate.
